BACKGROUND

Climate change affects us all, worldwide. The consequences of global warming are already noticeable: Increasingly high temperatures, droughts, floods, rising sea levels and a decline in biodiversity are threatening nature, humans and animals. Our societies and the way we live together must change fundamentally in order to counteract the existential threat of climate change. Therefore, the European Union has adopted an ambitious plan: the European Green Deal. This is a set of policy initiatives designed by the European Commission. The overall aim of it is for Europe to become the first climate-neutral continent.

So, why do we need a training course based on the Green Deal?

Unfortunately, like many European initiatives and policies, the implementation of them is complex – concrete and hands-on information on how to do it is missing. This makes it difficult for local and regional authorities to implement action plans based on green solutions or sustainable project. The GREEN Project addresses this problem: especially the local and regional level lacks proper knowledge, know-how and cooperation structures to design an action plan based on the EU Green Deal or the New European Bauhaus Initiative. This makes it nearly impossible for the staff to commence planning nor to produce the necessary results to combat climate change. The GREEN project aims to alter the way local and regional authorities and cities work. That is why it offers training material for adult trainers about the European Green Deal and the New European Bauhaus. It offers dedicated and practical, hands-on training resources to facilitate and train the target group to collaborate and create individual actions plans based on the New European Bauhaus Initiative and the European Green Deal. This means, we want to support  adult trainer so they can train the professionals working in the local and regional administration and regional authorities. But the content is also addressed to companies and the general adult population.

European Green Deal? New European Bauhaus? See an overview!

Since both strategies are commonly known, but many do not know exactly what the Green Deal and the New European Bauhaus are all about, we will give you a first overview.

European Green Deal

What is the EU Green Deal?

The European Union´s Green Deal was presented in December 2019 by the European Commission. It is a growth strategy with the overall object that the EU becomes the first climate neutral continent by 2050. In order to achieve this goal, the strategy addresses the different sectors such as construction, biodiversity, energy, transport and food. The measures include the establishment of a circular economy, an emissions trading system and a reforestation plan. The EU has earmarked 1 trillion euros for this purpose. The EU aims to implement the following policies: Clean energy by 2050, creating sustainable industry, building innovation, food sustainability and support to producers, eliminating pollution, sustainable mobility and biodiversity.

New European Bauhaus

What is the New European Bauhaus?

The aim of the New European Bauhaus initiative is to connect the Green Deal to the daily lives and living spaces of the European citizens. Therefore, it is a transdisciplinary movement that bridges the science, technology, art and culture. The initiative is a network and a contact point between these different sections and professions. The aim of creating these bridges is to facilitate the transformation of our societies. The focus of the transformation underneath the New European Bauhaus movement is:

  1. sustainability: these go hand in hand with the green deal,
  2. aesthetics: increase the quality of experience and style beyond functionality,
  3. inclusion: promotion of diversity, accessibility and affordability.
